Why Choose a retrofit, or replacement lamp?

A unique feature of the Clearlight is that it can be used as a retrofit. A retrofit is the quickest path to energy savings. No new luminaire fixture is required. Installation cost is minimal when compared to the cost of installing a new fixture.

Retrofits can also be performed according to demand. When legacy bulbs or ballasts cease to function adequately, they can be replaced one at a time. Costs of a retrofit can be spread out over time and according to budget.

fixtures

Energy Savings begins the moment you screw the Clearlight into the fixture. You may choose to bypass the ballast for addtional energy savings. The ballast continues to run and draw energy on its own even though the Clearlight does not require it for operation. While each manufactures' dusk-till-dawn fixture many seem different, the wiring is essentially the same. Bypass the ballast for maximum efficiency. Some customers choose to leave the ballast in until such time that their maintenance schedule permits the time to remove it.

The Energy Policy Act of 2005, called for the elimination of manufacturing, marketing, and importation of Mercury Vapor (MV) ballasts in the United States. While this legislation was passed in 2005, its effective date was January 1, 2008. Mercury Vapor fixtures remain part of the rural and urban lighting landscape. These fixtures can continue to serve - when the legacy MV bulb is replaced with a Clearlight.

Union, Washington: Retrofit Success!

When Gary Hanson moved into his home in Union, Washington, he inherited a 100W HPS dusk-till-dawn fixture from the previous owners.  It's unusual location, mounted on a tree next to his driveway, presented some maintenance concerns. While searching for a replacement, his friend Art Conrad who works for a Puget Sound utility, came upon an energy efficient alternative at NorthCoast Electric that would neither damage the tree, nor require an electrician to install: the Clearlight 40W LED Wide Optic retrofit. Art bought it, and gave it to Gary as a birthday present.  "It was a great solution. It only took a 20' ladder to implement." said Art Conrad.

“The Clearlight gives a bright, concentrated light,“ says Gary. "It lights up  the garage door, the car, the front steps and part way down the driveway, without shining in through the windows of our home."  Approved by the IDA as a Dark Sky Friendly Device, the Clearlight is a full-cut off light, eliminating unwanted light trespass. “The old HPS bulb used to spill light into the neighbor’s living room – across the street! More than one neighbor has complimented us on the new Clearlight.”
